Donald "Papa" Barnes

Barnes, Don “Papa” 88 of San Tan Valley, AZ passed away on March 6, 2016. Don was born in Clay Center, KS on June 18, 1927. Don was a Phoenix Fire Fighter for 26 years and started history by racing cars at Manzanita Speedway in 1951. Don is preceded in death by his wife Alvena “Nonie” Barnes, his parents Lowell and Marie Barnes, sister Isla Mae Adkins and his daughter Barb Settles. Don is survived by his daughters Linda Pina and Patti Barnes, Grandchildren Karri “Beany” Settles, Marnie Viso, husband Paul, Troy Anderson and Richelle Pina along with 3 very special “great grandkids” Teo DeQuina, Paul Viso and Allie Viso including his brother Loren Barnes, wife Patricia and nephew Brett Barnes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 12, 2016 with an 11:30-1:00 visitation and 1:00 p.m. service at Green Acres Mortuary located 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, AZ. Our family lost a gentleman; heaven sure gained a wonderful man. We will deeply miss you sweet Papa but we will never forget you. It’s time to dance with your beautiful bride, go find that dirt drack and start racing again and you’ll always have the best seat now to watch your ASU football games.
