Don leaves behind his brother -in law William Schutt and wife Sandy of College Point, NY as well as his niece and nephew Patricia and Rick Holder of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Don married his wife Frieda sometime before November of 1948. The couple had no children. Frieda was an executive with American Airlines which gave Don and Frieda an opportunity to see the world. And that they did. Frieda preceded Don in death in 1998.
Don joined the army in November of 1948 and served in Germany during the Cold War. He was honorably discharged and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. After his tour of duty was complete Don went to work for Consolidated Edison, New York’s largest utility. He started out as a lineman and worked his way up and into the ranks of management. Don retired from Con Ed in 1998.
Don moved to Scottsdale Arizona in 1998. He loved the Arizona weather. He would travel back to NY to visit with relatives every year and be the head barbeque master at his good friend’s house. Word is it was quite a party! He would also make sure he visited with his old crew at Con Ed.
Don was a fixture at the 92nd Street café in Scottsdale for the past 20 years. You could always tell if he was there because his spotless Cadillac Escalade stood out like a diamond in the parking lot. More important was all the friends he made over the years at this Cheers like gathering place. Don was loved by many and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to the American Legion Post #44. 7145 E 2nd St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
