She was born in Denver Colorado on May 18th, 1933, to Benjamin and Mabel Angus shortly before the family moved to South America where Dorothy spent most of her childhood and young adult life. She spoke perfect Spanish and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Languages. After which, Dorothy worked as a secretary for Superior Oil Company until her marriage.
She married the love of her life, James Randall Aitcheson, on November 3rd, 1956, in Caracas Venezuela. Together they supported their family, friends and community with humor, love, and grace until his death on October 31st, 2004.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a founding member of the booster club at Coronado High School while her children were in attendance, a 20+ year volunteer at both Honor Health Medical Center and St. Vincent de Paul, and she was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound through St. Daniel’s Catholic Church. She was a thorough genealogist who completed much of her research before the assistance of the internet. She was also very creative, leaving behind many ambitious crochet projects and hand painted dolls for her family.
Her biggest accomplishment, however, was her lifelong dedication to family, church, and community. She was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, grandmother, neighbor, and friend to countless people throughout her life.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband James Aitcheson, her son Randall Aitcheson, and her brother William Angus. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Aitcheson, granddaughters Elise and Erin Gronewald, nieces Tiffany and Kate Angus, sister-in-law Mimi Angus, and niece Cindy Willbanks and family.
