He was born May 20, 1970 to Dr. Forrest “Buzzie” C. Hentz and Carole Jean Hylton Hentz. John Preston was raised in Cary, North Carolina, and at 22 started his career in aviation in Tallahassee, Florida. At 28, he enlisted in the US Air Force, followed by service in the Phoenix Air National Guard after retirement. He served his country worldwide, earning many meritorious awards. After retiring, he remained a life-long student of science, technology & engineering, and employed his talents as a skilled craftsman and mechanic.
John Preston is survived by his siblings: Sharon Hentz (Donna), Laura Hentz Cooper (Jerry), and Forrest Hentz (Laura); and nephews/nieces: Joshua Smith (Jason), Jake Cooper, Will Tredway, Jeanna Cooper and Alison Hentz. He is also survived by his loving “second family” of friends in Scottsdale and his close childhood friends from Cary.
