Marvel Frances Schlick (nee Schroeder) was born May 3, 1921 on her parent’s farm near Lorraine, Kansas. Her parents were first generation German/Americans. She was the third of four children with two older brothers (Gordon and Victor) and one younger sister (Thelea).
She grew up with a large extended family and attended Lorraine Baptist Church along with her future husband Earl Schlick.
She attended Ottawa University at Ottawa, Kansas, was voted homecoming queen one year, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
During World War II Marvel married Earl on September 27, 1943 in the Lorraine Baptist Church then waited for him during his Navy deployment in the Pacific. After the war ended the couple raised four children; Daryl, Karen, Steven, and Mark.
Marvel and Earl were farmers and educators in Kansas, Washington, Arizona, and California. She taught elementary school and kindergarten.
Marvel and Earl moved to Arizona in 1956 and enjoyed retirement beginning 1978. They did voluntary visitation at Good Samaritan Hospital and attended numerous elder hostels. Marvel cared deeply for her family and friends and served humanity in many ways.
Marvel celebrated her birthday on May 3, surrounded by her family. She played bingo and enjoyed her favorite foods. She was 101 years old.
Marvel Schlick passed away on May 18, 2022 and is survived by Daryl (wife Barbara), Karen, Steven (wife Barb), and Mark (wife Kim).
The Schlick family would like to thank all who have supported them with their love, prayers, and words of comfort during this difficult period.
