

Maureen was born & raised in Hoboken NJ. She graduated from St Michaels High School in Union City NJ in 1955. Maureen later graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Hoboken NJ. Maureen married Gordon Holmes in 1960 and within 4 years had five children. Maureen and Gordon moved from NJ to Az in 1973 and divorced a few years later. Maureen was a RN at the Phoenix VA Medical Center for most of her career in Nursing. Maureen retired in 2001 to enjoy time with her family. In 1983 Maureen found love again and married Richard Vensel who has preceded her in death. Maureen will be laid to rest next to her husband Richard. Maureen had a passion for Football, Dancing w/ the Stars and Labrador Retriever’s. She had 3 Black Labs Whoopi Sassy and Minnie. Sadly Whoopi and Sassy have passed and Minnie is going to miss her! Maureen was always our biggest cheerleader at sporting events, graduations, dance recitals and birthday parties! We all loved her for always showing up to these important events in our lives. Maureen will be missed but her Children have absolutely wonderful memories that we will cherish and hold close in our Hearts forever. Maureen was the Best Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother our Family could have. She Adored all of her kids and will forever be in our Hearts.
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Anne McGavin of Hoboken, NJ; Spouse Richard Vensel of Scottsdale, AZ; and brothers John and Patrick McGavin of New Jersey. She is survived by her children Susan Holmes (Bryan Mitchell) of Mesa, AZ, JoAnne Buchan (Nigel) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Gordon Holmes of Scottsdale, AZ, Janet Cannella (John) of Scottsdale, AZ and Patrick Holmes of Scottsdale, AZ; sibling Joseph McGavin of Denville, NJ; grandchildren Devon Buchan of Fountain Hills, AZ, Kylee Holmes of Phoenix, AZ, Brandon Holmes of Mesa, AZ, Krista and Weelborg (TJ) of Queen Creek, AZ, Brittany Rivera (Jonathan) of San Tan Valley, AZ, Joshua Buchan (Hailey McCue) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Ashlee Cannella of Scottsdale, AZ and Alex Cannella of Scottsdale, AZ; and great grandchildren Brody Rivera of San Tan Valley, AZ, Ethan Tolnai of Queen Creek, AZ, Savannah Tolnai of Queen Creek, AZ and Blakeslee Rivera of San Tan Valley, AZ.
