

Dr. Paul Vaz passed away on January 22nd, 2021, in Chandler, Arizona. Paul was born in Zanzibar, Africa on July 2nd, 1950 to Thomas and Lucian Vaz. He is survived by his wife, Eva Vaz, son and daughter-in-law, Rahoul and Rynida Vaz, son-in-law and daughter, Scott and Shefali (Vaz) Collins, and three grandchildren, Alec, Elsa and Ryrah.
Paul had an amazing mind for math and a passion for teaching. In 1985 Paul earned his first PhD in Finite Mathematics in Goa, India. In 1991 he moved to Arizona to start a second PhD at Arizona State University in the area of Hodge-deRham theory for Riemannian manifolds. Following this, Paul pursued a long career at Arizona State University starting as a Teaching Assistant eventually rising to the rank of Principal Lecturer. He earned many accolades and awards during his time at ASU and published several papers. Aside from teaching, Paul loved to work with his hands and you could often find him gardening, cooking or working on his house. Music was also a big part of his life as he enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to The Beatles.
Paul was known for his quirky jokes, eagerness to help, and ability to lighten up a room. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
