Dr. Vaz was an amazing professor. I was very fortunate to have him as my teacher for Linear Algebra at ASU. He made the classes very interesting and made sure everyone in the class understood the concepts. Thanks to Dr. Vaz, I was able to complete the course after previously withdrawing from it since I found it very challenging (with another professor). I was deeply saddened to find out about the loss of Dr. Vaz today as I was referring back to my class notes to refresh on some linear algebra concepts for my Ph.D. program.  Thank you Dr. Vaz for preparing me for the tough road ahead of me. My deep condolences to your family and friends.

Rest in peace, Dr. Vaz. You will be greatly missed and always remembered.

Paul Vaz was my professor for a few math course. I took him for one course and from then on I decided to choose classes he taught. I graduated May 2020 with a BA in Mathematics. His classes weren't easier than the rest. He was simply an amazing teacher. Every person I meet who is struggling with math classes, I tell them to take courses taught by him. Today I was telling one of employees to take differential equations with Paul Vaz. I googled his name to show him who it was and found this obituary. I truly hope all his teacher assistant's were able to learn from him and will continue his teaching style. During my degree, I took Mathematical Structures twice before taking it with him with two different professors. It wasn't just that I had already taken the course but how he explained the proofs and listened to the questions we asked and provided true answers. I was deeply saddened when I saw that he past away. I hope this brief note of gratitude brings a smile to his family/friends.

Paul and I were classmates at Dhempe College Goa.  We were also residents in the same hostel.

Paul was a bright student with special interests in Mathematics. We hot along well .

I  lost touch with Paul after I left Goa for further studies. 

We are saddened by his passing away. Spoke to many common friends who remember him fondly.

He has been my father, my brother, my mentor and my friend. His kindness was legendary and his spirit powerful. My love for him is eternal and deathless. I feel grateful that I knew him for over twenty years and he directly impacted my life in a positive manner. He is the reason I finished an undergraduate degree and two graduate programs. He saw me through some of the toughest emotional and physical storms of my life, and he was my unwavering captain through those storms. He was a math professor who taught for over thirty years after receiving two doctorates in math. He never eluded the grandeur of his capabilities as a gentle and caring human being. Dr.Paul was my teacher at St Xavier's High School Moira.There was so much of fun in the class when he was around and he never lost his temper even when mischief was done because he enjoyed being a teacher.Rest in peace Dear Sir.

I remember Paul from my school days when he used to perform at the Simla Beat Show at Calangute for a band . He went on to  teach us Maths at the Engineering college in Farmugudi. He was a great musician and an excellent mathematician . Proud to hear that he rose to great heights in Arizona . My heartfelt sympathies to his bereaved family. May his soul Rest in Peace.

Dr Paul was such a friendly and kind person. I enjoyed many evenings lakeside in Tempe where I had the privilege and honor of being the café bartender for Paul and his beautiful family, enjoying beers, food, music, and colorful sunsets over the lake. 

I enjoyed meeting his grandchildren this morning and hearing them appreciate the food he made for them, especially custom designed birthday cakes! 

I hope each of us can carry on something special in our lives to further honor the great things that Dr Paul brought each of us with memories of such love and kindness. Cheers to you, Paul from your many friends and neighbors of the Tempe Lakes community! May the Lord's perpetual light shine upon you.

To ALL Members of late Dr. Paul Vaz. I shall light a Candle and say some Prayers for Paul. I remember his Family well in Zanzibar and his dear Sister Sabina . We used to go to Zanzibar on School Holidays across from Dar es Salaam. Those were the happy Memorable days way back in the 1960s. Thank you God for those good times. May Paul's Soul Rest In Peace. An excellent teacher, great human being.
He would make you very comfortable whenever we went to him with any difficulties.

I remember him as a very good gentleman who used to teach us Mathematics in our first year of the engineering college in Goa Engineering college at Farmagudi Ponda Goa in 1978.

Please accept my deepest sympathy during this difficult time. Since we learned that he passed away, it still does not feel real. He is greatly missed.

Paul and I worked together last semester on a project. I already knew that he was a brilliant mathematician and teacher. During these meetings his friendly, happy, and humble personality immediately attracted my attention. It was very obvious how much he cared about the department, the students and individually for every one of us.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Paul's family, friends, colleagues, and students. 

Paul was not just a brilliant mathematician and teacher; he was a renaissance man in his own way. Even so, he was humble and human. He continually pursued learning about new things, as well as his favorite subjects. Paul enjoyed so much in life, including family, friends, music, singing & playing guitar, cooking, gardening, fixing things, and helping people. Although he was a busy man, he would take time whenever possible to help others. Paul was always ready with a lighthearted joke, a song, or his easy laughter. I will miss our conversations, swapping life stories, and hearing his tales of adventure. Most of all, I will miss Paul's kindness and friendship. 

Paul was passionate about his work in Mathematics. He was truly committed to it. At times when we would talk about his research he would overwhelm me with his depth of knowledge. He enjoyed teaching his students and his work at ASU.

He also was an excellent cook and we did enjoy the sorportel (a traditional Goan dish) he made at Christmas time.

May his soul Rest In Peace in the everlasting light of his creator, he will be missed.

Paul was a friend and a colleague for many years. He was passionate about his job and contributed immensely to our School and ASU.  He had a gentle demeanor and a quirky sense of humor. He always made me smile. He would drop by my office to talk about work and we would end up talking about family, cooking, gardening, home improvement, and all his other passions. Every year after Christmas he would bring me a slice of his delicious Irish fruit cake. He was kind, generous and thoughtful. I will miss him terribly.

We have known Paul since 1982, when his late sister, Marian, was married to my brother.  We may be related by law, but it has never felt that way.  Our families bonded and we shared many happy times together. Paul was much a part of our lives then and he loved spending weekends with us and vice versa.  
Paul, as we knew him then, was an intellectual, and had a great love for teaching and music.  Despite his many talents, he was never proud or boastful, always very down to earth.  He was very passionate about his family and always wanted the best for all.  Paul’s triumphs and accomplishments wherever he was come as no surprise.  Paul will be missed terribly.  

You may be out of sight, but you will live on in our hearts.

Dr. Vaz was my undergraduate honors thesis director and calculus teacher several years ago. My experiences speaking and working with him over the last seven years are easily my favorite memories of my time at Arizona State University. Without his constant encouragement and support, I would not have had the courage to continue my studies into graduate school. 

I know that I am only one of many who have been touched by his boundless enthusiasm.  I hope to lead by his example and inspire others to do the same. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

It is so hard to think about the loss to our School at ASU. Paul has been such a great contributor over the years. He and I would always stop and chat on the mall, if not running to class. I cherish many such brief moments with him over the years. He was always so calm and thoughtful.  He will be missed. 

To Paul's family, I am so very sorry for your loss. 

Paul was such a fun and energetic person, and he was extremely competent and hard working as well. I enjoyed passing ways with him and receiving a cheerful greeting. Or talking with him about how to best approach teaching a particular subject. He had so much experience and knowledge about reaching students and helping them achieve their goals. He will be deeply missed at ASU. He had so much more to give in this life.
