Robert Edward Pollard, 70 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away Oct. 1, 2021. “Bob” as he was known to his friends and family, was born July 11, 1951 to Preston and Frances Pollard in Phoenix, Arizona. Bob was an only child and third generation Arizonan and proud Phoenician. He was a lover of all things related to Arizona history, including Native American artwork and jewelry, which he collected over his lifetime.
Growing up he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Central High School in 1969 and then attended Phoenix College. He went on to receive his Master of Science in Animal Nutrition from Arizona State University. While in college he did his research in animal nutrition at the Phoenix Zoo. He often spoke lovingly of his memories there. He remained a zoo member for years. In 1972 he married his high school sweetheart, Terry Ann Stuart and mother to his three daughters. While raising his daughters he worked for Associated Grocers/Fleming Foods as a foreman and was a member of the local Southwest Teamsters 104. Bob was a huge Arizona State football fan, and active member of the ASU Alumni Association. You would almost always find him wearing an ASU hat or t-shirt.
He will be most remembered by his family for his passion for music. He loved musicals, in particular the Phantom of the Opera, his favorite. He also played tenor saxophone in a band called Sound Investment during his college years. He enjoyed gardening and eating at his favorite restaurant Macayo’s, that he frequented from the 1950’s until his passing. During his later years Bob continued to enjoy gardening by working for the Home Depot in the garden department and spending time with his six grandchildren.
Bob was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his eldest daughter Cassandra (Colin Young), and their three boys, Andrew, Jeffrey, and Matthew, his middle daughter Meghan (Eric Rakotz), and their children, Emma, Ethan, and Eva, and his youngest daughter Clarice Pollard.
In lieu of flowers you may make donations to the Phoenix Zoo or the Boy Scouts of America.
His service will be outdoors and is open to friends, co-workers, and family at Green Acres Cemetery at 401 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday Oct. 22nd at 3pm.
