Sureshkant Purshottam Patel

It is with our deepest sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Dr. Sureshkant Patel on July 25th, 2024 at the age of 81. Suresh was born in Dar es Salaam in 1942 to Purshottam and Gangaben Patel. He was the sibling of Sadhuram Patel, Surendra Patel, Manjula Patel, and the late Urmila Patel. Suresh lived in India before calling the United States home in the 1970s.

Dr. Sureshkant Patel, MD completed his medical school training in India before relocating to the United Kingdom for further training in infectious diseases, after which he completed Dermatology and additional Mohs training in New York City. He then served a decorated and tenured career to the community of Western New York for over 25 years as a dermatologist and one of only 40 Mohs Surgeons treating skin cancers.

Suresh was often known as a kind-hearted, gentle individual who had a particular love of music, amassing a vast collection of tapes and CDs. He also had a particular interest in sourcing and collecting antiques, mainly of a medical variety. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and with research within all facets of medicine. He was known to provide medical care and advice to family and friends who were in need, especially when considering the paucity of physicians that are able to provide prompt dermatologic care. Many people were grateful for the compassion he showed and the friendship he provided.

Suresh's decorated career was also highlighted by his desire to give back and train new doctors entering the complex field of dermatology. He spent countless hours in his private office, generously spending well-beyond a patient's allotted time slot, to explain their pathologic disease process with pictures and illustrations from medical journals in terms they can understand. He was a very well known and recognized physician in the Buffalo area.

Suresh is survived by his beloved wife, Bharati, sons Raj and Roy, and daughters-in-law Sheetal and Manisha as well as his grandchildren Dylan, lan and Soren.
