Andrew Waugh was my uncle. I don't think there is a childhood memory of mine without Uncle Drew. My sisters and I moved around alot when we were younger, we went back and forth between our parents and our grandmother, and Uncle Drew was never far behind us.  He always seemed to end up where we were. While living with my grandmother, my uncle cooked dinner everynight; he was a fanastic cook. Some of my favorite memories are so simple. He and I used to sit around and watch football and basketball together; we were almost always rooting for the same teams. My uncle and I also shared a love for science. He was the only one in my whole family who could sit there for hours with me, talking about animals, eathquakes, the weather and just about anything else that had to do with science. My sisters and I lost our mother and father a few years back now, Uncle drew was father figure to us, he will be missed.

My uncle Drew has always been a part of my life.  He was always living with us or close by when my sisters and I were growing up.  He was the best uncle I could ask for I wouldn't have traded him for anything.  He had a big personality and a big heart to go along with it.  His sense of humor was one of my favorite things about him.  I will never forget his laugh or his deep voice. His voice was one of those unique deep voices that you would hear narrating a movie. My sisters and I were a big part of his life.  He always told us he loved us and how proud he was of us.  He would always say that we were the only kids he was ever gona have.  Probably because he saw how crazy my sisters and I were (hee, hee, hee!).  I have always been the prankster of the family and he was always right there laughing and giving me new ideas to add to my collection of great pranks. He cared very deeply about his family.  He was always a big part of my mom and dad's life. He really loved his little sis (Peggy)  He would tell stories about the shenanigans that the three of them would pull.  He referred to my dad as Billy Bob and his face would light up when he talked about the times they had together.  Sadly after my mom, dad, and grandma passed away a piece of him went as well. He learned how to deal with their passing but said he thought about them always, especially his mom whom he loved so profoundly.  Drew was one of the smartest people I have known.  Any question I asked him, he would have an answer for.  His favorite TV programs were either on the Animal Planet, History Channel or Sports. He loved to learn new facts.  His love for football was undeniable.  One of his favorite teams would have to be the Ducks.  I remember that he would wrap a towel around his head and sleep the rest of the day if they lost. Every time my family would visit he would talk to Eric (my husband) about Mike, TooTall Jones or Howie Long because he could play all over the field in any position.  The best memory is when my uncle walked me down the isle.  He was the only person that could fill my dad's shoes. He was so happy that I asked him, and to me there was no other choice that would have felt right. He was also very proud of his great nephew Dyontae. He was so excited that Dyontae liked to play football.  One of my uncle's favorite memories with Dyontae was when he taught him how to make paper clip airplanes. I could go on and on about my uncle Drew because he was such an awesome uncle and made a  huge impact in my life. He was a genuinely good person who cared so deeply for his family.  I will never forget and I will hold onto the memories we shared forever.

    Drew is my Uncle, my mom's brother.  I was with him the last week of his life in the hospital.    If there was a couple things in life that Drew excelled at it would be cooking, landscaping, and painting. He used to make great meals for us girls and his mother. He was great in the kitchen, he could mix up anything and make it taste amazing…boy did his mother love his meat loaf! 
      With his landscaping capabilities he took the yard at our old house on Skipper Ave. and transformed it into one of the most beautiful yards on the street. All those flowers  put a smile on my Grandma's face whenever she went outside. He also worked for his uncle at Camelot Village doing the landscaping for the grounds there.
      I would go with my Uncle on a few jobs over the years for house painting. I remember one house in Junction City that we painted. He was quick to teach me how to use the spray gun, so  he could sit back and watch me do all the work (payback for all the years I tortured him). He loved the idea of drinking a Sparks while he taught me how to spray an entire house. We had a lot of fun that summer, going out to places to paint and do other tasks. And yes we enjoyed a few beers on the job; we had a blast, as our sense of humor was pretty darn similar.
      He has taught me so much over the span of my life, and for that I am forever grateful. He was by far one of the closest family members to me. While we girls were growing up, Drew and our parents, Peggy and Bill, were the three musketeers, always together and always having a blast. They never really parted ways and now the three musketeers are reunited again in Heaven.
      Drew always had a soft spot for animals, when we nieces were younger he was always bringing home stray cats or dogs that he found.  His mother, Marcia, would tell him time and time again, “No more animals, Drew!” but he couldn't resist. Once we girls saw those cute little fur balls, Grandma Marcia knew we were going to have to keep them. Deep down we all know she thought they were just as cute as we did.
      Drew was also close to my sisters, Marcia and Billie. Marcia and Drew always went on and on and on about the weather and science, conversations that Billie and I just were not interested in. Marcia and Drew spoke on the phone nearly every day since she moved to Texas in 2009. He used to always joke about Billie being the sweet one of us three and that she was one day going to be taking care of him when he was old and needed a diaper change (she is a nurse). I know one of her best memories of him is the day he walked her down the isle in 2010. 
        He loved us all equally and always seemed to be wherever we were, whether we were living with our parents or our Grandmother he was never far behind. Drew was like a father to us and is greatly missed; his absence is a big void in our lives.  We will always hold him in our hearts.

Drew's mother, Marcia, was my mother's little sister.   I was six years old when Drew was born and I pretended he was the little brother I never had.  He gave me many, many gifts in his lifetime.  When he was a baby, he gave me his undivided attention.   He was my student.  I read to baby Drew every thing I learned in first & second grade and I was convinced that I taught him to read by age 2. (I like to think I was partly responsible for his love of books!)  Drew was my first and frequent babysitting customer. I used to pretend I was his mother and his mother let me be his “babysitter”  for years. He was as at home, in our house, as he was in his own.   When our families moved to different parts of the country, he would send me the sweetest little notes, bits of paper and cards.  Once he sent me a $2 bill, no note – he knew I would think it was cool.  When he was 13, he bought me a gift with his paper route money – a little kitchen hand mixer that I treasured for 40 years because he picked it out himself.  When he was 18, back in Oregon, he gave me the love of cats.  He could never resist taking in a stray cat. His latest, Samantha, had kittens at our grandmother's house and he talked me into taking the 2 little girl kitties.  Marilyn and Muffie were part of our family for the rest of their lives.   He checked up on those cats for 12 years.  He came to Portland one summer & painted our entire house.   He adored his Aunt Pat and Uncle Harry and came to work with them at Camelot while he was still attending college classes.  He helped them build and landscape their Camelot Village. Later he shared his love of plants and flowers with me when he came back to Camelot to help us out a few years ago.  He talked  me into irises, dahlias, water lilies and many other flowers for our garden.  He would call monthly to report the progress of the flowers.  He filled his mother's yard with incredible plants and flowers: hanging them from the trees, from the rafters and growing everywhere. He and his mother joined a flower club and he was always sharing his latest favorite bulb.  We shared the love, caretaking and deaths of our grandmother and mothers as only family members can.  Drew had unlimited love for his sister and brother and his nieces and nephews.... he was forever thanking me for looking out for them.   Drew was loyal and kind, had a great sense of humor and could cook up an incredible meal.  I know Drew touched many lives; every once in a while someone will call and ask after him and I learn a little more about Drew the handiman, the friend, the coworker, the buddy,  who will be missed.  I know that I miss him and can only pray he's with his sweet mother and sister; neither of whom he really ever wanted to live without in this world.
