Arlene Marie Miller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother/gaga, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Arlene passed away in the presence of family on March 12, 2013 after an extended battle with cancer. She was a talented, hardworking, caring woman who was the matriarch of the Miller family and she will be very deeply missed.
Born June 22, 1932 to Oscar and Marie Olson in Spirit Falls, Wisconsin, because of the untimely death of her father Arlene was later adopted by H.D. and Edith Carstens at the age of five. Her new family moved to Silverton, Oregon where Arlene graduated high school. After graduation she moved to Seattle to live with her birth mother and stepfather. Arlene met and married William Owen "Bill" Miller in Seattle in 1950, and following the birth of their son in 1951, they moved briefly to San Diego and then to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where their two daughters were born. Arlene and Bill moved back to Seattle in 1955 and purchased five acres in Federal Way in 1958. They worked together to build a lovely home on their acreage, and in 1962 Arlene went to work for the Sears Catalog Store in Auburn. Working her way through the ranks at Sears, first in catalog sales, then as a traveling merchant trainer for the greater Northwest, Arlene retired as a Sears store manager in 1990. Arlene enjoyed many hobbies including photography, sewing, gardening, genealogy, and even reading tarot cards, but most of all Arlene loved and enjoyed her family. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Bill.
She is survived by her son Gary and his wife Lois, daughters Connie Boyle and Robyn Bennett and her husband Jack, five loving grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
