

Edith May (Hagan) Maines quietly passed away on January 22, 2015 at the Willapa Harbor Care Center in Raymond, Washington at the age of 99. Edith was born in Seattle, Washington on July 2, 1915 to Charles E. Hagan, a Swedish immigrant, and Ida May (Sweet) Hagan of Illinois. After graduating from Ballard High School in 1935, she attended Wilson's Modern Business College and worked as a stenographer/typist for companies in downtown Seattle.
On July 8, 1940 Edith married Melvin F. Maines. They later became parents to a daughter, Judith, and a son, Daniel. She enjoyed her family, sewing, quilting, reading, working at the Haines Art Gallery in Ballard, and playing pinochle with other women in the neighborhood. She also loved to travel and made many trips to Europe, especially enjoying England, Scotland, France, and Spain.
Edith was born in Ballard, raised in Ballard, she and Melvin bought their Ballard home in 1944, and she lived there continuously until 2012. Edith was a resident of Ballard for over 97 years!
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her sister Bernice, her brother Arthur, and her daughter Judith Pedersen. She is survived by her son, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Edith will be laid to rest at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, Washington.
