Edward Earl Wasser passed away at the age of 66 after a courageous 16-year battle with Parkinson's disease. Ed was known by all as a kind and generous man who was devoted to his family. He was born on February 2, 1945 in Longview, WA to Earl and Rosemary Wasser. He grew up in the Eastmoreland neighborhood of Portland, OR where he played Little League and began a life-long love of golf. Known by friends as "Easy Ed" for his quick smile and easygoing manner, he graduated from Cleveland High School in 1963 and from the University of Oregon in 1967 where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After college, he graduated from the US Army's Officer Candidate School and served in Korea as a lieutenant in the Vietnam War. He returned to Portland and started his career in sales, married Janis Haftorson and had three children. In Portland, he worked for Proctor and Gamble, CFS Continental and Sysco. In 1989, he moved with his family to the Seattle area to become President of Sysco Seattle. At the age of 50, Ed was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease but continued to enjoy running, playing basketball and tennis. He moved back to Portland for five years to enjoy time with old friends, playing golf and poker games, traveling, and attending U of Oregon football games and reunions. In 2007, Ed returned to Seattle to be close to his children. He spent the last years of his life enjoying time with his growing family. Ed is survived by sisters Rosalie Quinn (Paul) and Carolyn Ikuta, his brother Alan Wasser, many nieces and nephews, his children Dana Tseng (Monson), Katie Runions (Adam) and Robbie Wasser (Carmen) and his five young grandchildren who brought him such joy. He will be dearly missed by us all. Ed's children would like to say a special thank you to Joann and David Enge and their staff at Nordic Woods for their wonderful care and kindness the last 3½ years. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory can be made to parkinsonsproject.org. A memorial for Ed will be held in Portland at the East Moreland Golf Club on January 12th at 3:00 p.m.Arrangements under the direction of Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home, Seattle, Washington.
