He passed away at his home on November 18th of this year, due to an illness after a 25 year battle with cancer.
Elmer served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and then came home to Seattle to serve his community through the Seattle Police Department. He was with the Seattle Police Department from 1962 – 2001, when he retired after 39 years of faithful service. During this time, he also was a member of the Seattle Police Motorcycle Drill Team.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Ruby.
He is survived by his sons; Matt and Dan Johnston and his daughters; Betty Lynn Johnston and Kim Avilla. He is also survived by his sister, Elsie M (Johnston) Hageman and her husband Wallace L. Hageman, as well as 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
A celebration of life for Elmer will be held on Saturday, 12/13 at Acacia Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 pm.
