Ertie was a caring, compassionate, smart, and loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and beloved friend. She studied Sinology at the University of Indonesia and received a scholarship to continue her education in the US at Harvard University. She joined the faculty at UW, teaching the Indonesian language. One of her many talents was her ability to speak many languages fluently and learning new ones effortlessly.
She had unwavering faith in God and was deeply involved in the Seattle Indonesian community. Though she rarely chose to be in the spotlight, Ertie was known by all for her kind presence and humble heart. Whether it was knitting baby sweaters, giving away food, or sending birthday cards with encouraging messages, Ertie always sought to help others.
She made many true friends in her life and the impact she has had is immeasurable. She is dearly missed by her many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many devoted friends.
