It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Evelyn Gerda Augusta Christensen (Eriksen) who died peacefully on March 26th, 2024. Born in Seattle Washington in 1927 to Norwegian immigrants Olaf and Dorothy Eriksen, her younger years were impacted by the Great Depression and World War II. Those events instilled in her strength, determination and Independence.
After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945 she and her family spent one year in her parent’s native Norway where Evelyn immersed herself in the culture and language and made many lifelong friends. She undoubtedly was assisted by the attention a beautiful young American brunette attracted.
She nurtured those friendships and maintained those language skills for the remainder of her life and instilled her Norwegian heritage and pride in all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took all of her family on a life changing and memorable trip to Norway in 2007 and took many additional trips back to Norway with her mother, children and loving sister Dorothy.
She married her high school sweetheart, Fred in 1948 and raised her four children on Mercer Island as a loving and devoted mother whose patience and never-ending support will never be forgotten.
Her love for the outdoors included regular hiking and skiing trips with a close group of friends and only reluctantly gave up skiing at the age of 80.
Her colorful attire brought smiles to many and her indomitable spirit was an inspiration to all that met her. She will be remembered for her joyful laugh, unconditional love, sparkling smile and the twinkle in her eye.
She is predeceased by her husband Fred and son David and is survived by her sons Steven and Fred, daughter Julie as well as her 9 grandchildren Nicholas, Erika, Dane, Brandon, Michelle, Kevin, Ryan, Michael and Samantha. She was blessed with 10 great grandchildren with two additional on the way.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May, details pending.
