Jeff Ackles passed away surrounded by his loving family on Feb 25, 2026. He was born Aug 7, 1944 to Watson Theodore Ackles and Clara Galashek Ackles. He was born, raised and schooled in the Montlake and Madrona areas of Seattle.
After graduating from Garfield High school in 1962, Jeff attended the Univ of Wa. He was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam with honorable discharge in 1968. He began a 3+ decade career with the US Postal service in 1968, retiring in 1999.
In 1976 Jeff met his future wife Bonnie Munroe while working at the post office, where she was the head nurse. She tended to his ‘fabricated paper-cut’ and blood pressure screening, as a prelude to a first date. The rest was history. They married in 1977 and shared a 50 year bond of love, support and friendship.
Jeff was a man of few words and many passions. He had a vivid imagination and a knack for telling a joke, spinning a yarn, as well as creative writing and storytelling. He was a skilled marksman, avid hunter and fisherman. He had an insatiable interest in reading, cooking and gardening, but his enthusiasm for humor, wit and writing stories was intense and unchallenged. He came by these traits through birthright, matching wits with his ‘Gramps’ Ackles, Aunt Neva Ackles VanOgle, Uncle George Ackles and his beloved Pa, Ted Ackles. Many of his stories, jokes and puns were published, and he enjoyed emailing daily jokes and stories to a long list of forever friends.
Jeff was a man of honor and a loyal, true friend. His life was defined by his core values and his passions which never wavered. He was honest, hardworking, kind, generous and practical. He had a deep and abiding love for his family. Nothing pleased him more than to teach his young nephews Sandy and Scott Wilson the art of hunting, fishing, joke-telling and the gift of being a ‘magical prankster’. If you were a friend of Jeff Ackles, you were vetted for life. Childhood friends Terry Stevens, John Sheumaker and Steve Bunker were his best buds. Vietnam confidante Larry Madsen (Menominee, WI) was a lifelong soulmate, who kept each other going during the worst of times in Cu Chi, Vietnam. Post Office coworkers Kathy and Pat Butler, Terri Lawson, Reno Berge and Dave Sorge were inseparable and cherished forever friends over many decades. While he dearly loved his family and valued his friends, we all came in second to his furry ‘best boys’ Beau and Sparky Ackles.
Jeff is survived by his wife Bonnie Ackles (Edmonds), cousin Diane Ackles Chapman (Shoreline), Cousin Mark Chapman (Christine Lawson, Mountlake Terrace), cousin Doriane Gunnels (Shawn, AZ), cousin Betty VanOgle (CA), cousin Joanna Mindigo (CA), nephew Sandy Wilson (wife Amy Kalson, Seattle), Nephew Scott Wilson (daughter Emma Wilson, Edmonds), sister-in-law Bea Wilson, (Edmonds). Jeff was adored and admired by many other cousins, nieces and nephews who were captivated by his humor, wit, and sarcasm, especially his notorious and fabled ‘family lore’.
There will be a memorial service and reception at Luther Memorial Church on Saturday, March 28th 11-12pm, reception following 12-2pm. 13047 Greenwood Ave N Seattle, 98133. Inurnment will be at Acacia Memorial Park Seattle, WA.
