George R. “Dick” Follis, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in Shoreline, WA. A proud Seattle native, he was born May 23, 1931 at Swedish Hospital to George and Genevieve Follis.
Dick attended Roosevelt High School (‘49), and the summer following graduation he was in an industrial accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. He recovered to navigate the rest of life's adventures using leg braces and a pair of wooden crutches he called his "sticks". He graduated from the University of Washington (’57) with a BS in Electrical Engineering, later earning an MBA from Seattle University (’71). He spent his entire professional career with The Boeing Company (43 years) retiring in 1992.
Dick was extremely proud of his three children, Kerry Follis (Kevin Jacques) of Shoreline, David (Cathy) of West Seattle, and Elizabeth of Salt Lake City, UT. He took particular delight in his two grandchildren, Ellie Anna Follis (8½) and Joshua William Follis (2½) of West Seattle. He is survived by his wife, Lorna.
He will always be remembered for his gregarious nature, passion for science and history, fascination with all things automotive, nautical, and aeronautical, excellent culinary skills, and love of traveling in both his youth and later with his family.
Internment at Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Lake City, WA. Memorial donations in Dick’s name may be made to the Roosevelt High School Golden Grads Scholarship Fund, ([email protected]).
