She spent most of her childhood in the University District of Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1938. After graduation she got a job with Sears and Roebuck where she worked for nearly 30 years in Seattle, Boston, and Anchorage. It was at Sears that she met George Cooper, a soldier she hired who had returned from World War II. They were married in 1948 and had one daughter. They moved to Anchorage Alaska in 1954 to open a Sears store, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping. Returning to Seattle in 1956 they spent summers boating in the San Juans, and after retirement, trailering in Arizona. Kay volunteered at the Butterfly thrift store for over two decades where her fellow volunteers and customers became friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, she found joy in spending time with them and supporting their activities.
She was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family and friends
and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter Lynda Watters (Bob), grandchildren Kate and Charlie Watters, step granddaughter Lisa Werner, and nieces and nephews including Kay Loudermilk, Patty Danel, and Lisa Hill.
She is preceded in death by her husband George, sister Wenonah Danel, stepdaughters Phyllis Cooper and Carole Cooper, nephews Frank Danel and Dick Jensen and niece Barbara Campbell.
