Born on June 4, 2010, in Kirkland, Washington, Katherine was a cherished daughter, beloved sister, and friend to many whose lives she touched with her spirited nature.
Katherine’s journey on earth was a testament to her courage and strength as she faced osteosarcoma with the heart of a lioness. She took control of as much of the battle as possible, determined not to miss out on anything life still offered.
She passed away peacefully at home in Woodinville, Washington, surrounded by her parents, Chris and Therese, and her older siblings—Xavier, Michael, Marie, Basil, and Angela—while they prayed the Rosary together, enveloping her with love and prayers for her journey to her heavenly Father.
Katherine was blessed with a vibrant and engaging personality. She was the hub of the family; most requests to Mom and Dad came through Katherine, because she was nearly impossible to refuse. She drew the love and admiration of countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Incredibly active, she loved basketball and swimming, and the neighborhood lake was often graced by her presence during summer.
Katherine cherished her Traditional Catholic Faith—its beauty, clarity, and truths—which equipped her with the armor and tools she needed to endure the intense trials and crosses of her battle with cancer. Her spirit overflowed with cheerfulness, humor, and compassion; her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Described by those who loved her as “spirited” (if not extremely stubborn!) and courageous, Katherine lived a life rich in the things that matter most. She had an uncanny gift for lifting the spirits of those around her, and her laughter remains a melody that will echo forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
We are forever grateful to everyone who loved and helped us raise and care for Katherine: those who guided her sacramental preparation, the homeschooling co-ops, Chesterton Academy of St. Michael, the compassionate medical teams at her pediatrician’s office, Seattle Children’s Hospital, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, and Hope4Cancer; and, most especially, our extended family, dear friends, and the many thousands who prayed and sacrificed for her. We also wish to thank the priests of St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church and North American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, as well as all the priests, clerics, and religious who nourished Katherine with the sacraments and blessings throughout her life.
Above all, we give honor and glory to Almighty God for the priceless gift of this beautiful soul, whom He called home to eternity before we felt ready to let her go.
Requiescat in pace, our dearest Katherine, until we meet again in the glory of God’s kingdom!
With endless love,
Dad, Mom, Xavier, Michael, Marie, Basil, and Angela
