Born January 16, 1934 in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines to Alejandro Maza and Trinidad Vergara-Maza, she graduated high school from Centro Escolar University in 1950 and graduated college from Far Eastern University in Manila in 1954 with an accounting degree. She was a math teacher at Fort Bonifacio High School in Makati City and ran a salon business with her sisters before relocating to Seattle in 1966.
Soon after relocating, she met the love of her life, Phil E. Simmons and they were married in Bremerton on May 26, 1967. They resided in Seattle along with their cherished cats, Peanut and Cracker, who she treated as her babies. She and Phil had a long, loving marriage and joyously celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2017.
She was a devout and active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where she served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
An avid golfer and skier, she also enjoyed playing piano, gardening, and growing flowers, especially roses. One of the last things she told her husband before she passed away was to be sure to take care of her roses. She had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was happiest when spending time with her husband, her sisters and her nieces and nephews. She was easy-going and kind but was not afraid to bravely stick up for herself and her family when needed. She was treasured by everyone whose life she touched.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her seven siblings: Fe Jacinto, Seattle; Paz Smith, Port Orchard; Sol Sipin, Seattle; Fely Halili, Seattle; Evangeline (Baby) Daza, Seattle; Alejandro Maza, Jr., Philippines; Victorino Maza, Guam as well as numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jose and Roy Maza.
Calling hours are scheduled 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 12th at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, with Fr. Kevin Duggan officiating.
