

Marian Ruth Zaske was born in Bellingham on December 9, 1939, to Harold and Fern Pierce. Marian is survived by her husband of 30 years David Zaske, son Scott Haynes, daughter-in law Heather Haynes and grandchildren Alexander and Sean Haynes. Marian and her parents moved from Bellingham to Seattle where she attended and graduated from West Seattle High School.
After High School Marian attended Washington State University. After trying college, she married her high school sweetheart and had her only child Scott.
After her first marriage she remarried and moved to Oregon, and then in 1970 moved to North Carolina. In 1970 North Carolina she lived in 3 cities and worked as a Stenographer at Wachovia Back and Catawba College. While working at Catawba College she also attended college classes as well as being a home keeper and mom. In 1978, the family moved to West Virginia for 9 cold months. From there she moved to Odessa, Texas. From the cold to the heat. She attended UT Permian Basin to continue her college education.
In 1980 she moved to Brownsville in South Texas. There she graduated from UT Rio Grande Valley college with her bachelor’s degree. From South Texas she decided to move back home to South Seattle and moved in with her mom, Fern. She then started her career with Boeing. While working in what she referred to as the Flash Cube Building she got her security clearance and worked in the procurement group for the Stealth Bomber.
After her Boeing career and a few other management jobs she retired. She met David Zaske and got married and decided to have a nice quite retirement. Starting in 1999 she started her first of seven mission trips to Africa. Many travels to Congo, Liberia and one mission stay for six months in Zambia. On one occasion she had a tough struggle with Malaria upon returning home. In 2008 the last mission trip was to Haiti. In 2006 her and David moved to a cottage at Wesley Des Moines. 2013 started her many battles with cancer. Starting with a Kidney being removed to a procedure with the Gamma knife for brain cancer and having small portions of lung removed. She stayed strong and healthy and had many enjoyable vacations with David. After a long engagement with Parkinson’s disease the Lord has called her home.
The Celebration of Life will be at 2PM on May 15, 2025 at Wesley Des Moines in the Terrace Building on the north side of 216th.
