Mary Wilmot Irvine was born in Seattle on her mother' s birthday. She grew up with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters as pioneers of the Montlake district. She and her future husband, Al, graduated from Garfield High School. She worked at Rhodes department store for six years before she and Al were wed on April 23rd, 1940. Mary gave birth to her children Jean, Jim, and Stewart and became an at-home mother. Mary and Al loved to dance, and stayed active in Seattle's "Winter Club".
Mary loved family holidays, and particularly enjoyed camping and picnics. She was an active member of the Ryther Child Center, PEO International, and the DAR. After her children were grown, she worked at Safeco as a medical claims supervisor until retirement in 1977. Mary and Al traveled and enjoyed retirement. They became founding members of the Emerald Heights senior community in Redmond, WA. Al succumbed to Parkinson's disease in 1997. Mary passed away with a smile on her face on Good Friday, April 22nd, a few hours before her anniversary. She was an outgoing person who genuinely loved people. In her own words, "I am so happy for my life, my three great kids, five grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren, and would like to be remembered for the fine family that we raised". The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to: Emerald Heights Benevolence Fund Emerald Heights 10901-176th Circle NE Redmond, WA 98052-7218. In memory of Mary W. Irvine. Arrangements under the direction of Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home, Seattle, Washington.
