Mary was born to John and Dorothy Hill in 1947 in Portland, OR, and spent most of her life in Seattle. She is survived by her husband, Larry Sabol, whom she married in 1986, along with her brother John Hill and her sister Linda Preble. She has a son, Kenneth Pontelandolfo, a daughter, Hillary Rochon and three grandchildren: Anthony, Monica and Riley.
Mary graduated from West Seattle High School in 1965. She spent most of her active career in human resources for an international company, working in Seattle and retiring in 2011. Mary’s care and attention for all the associates she worked with made her not only respected but revered by people at all organizational levels. She lived out her personal belief of, “First, take good care of each other” in all her professional and personal affairs. As one of her many friends said, “When you talked with Mary, she made you feel like you were the only person in the room”.
Mary loved to garden and “dig in the dirt”. She even completed certification as a floral design expert. She was actively involved in her church, where she served in various roles, including as a volunteer teacher’s aide in her church’s elementary school after her retirement.
Mary’s simple grace and compassion was revealed in all she said and did. She was a person of exceptional faith in God, which was most wonderfully demonstrated in her love for others. She always sought the best in everyone she knew and met.
A family service will be held the week of May 25th at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, followed by a celebration of life memorial service at Lutheran Church of The Cross in Kent, WA after the pandemic restrictions have been lifted.
