When her Dad got his job with Boeing, she remained in Hoquiam to graduate high school. She then joined her parents in South Park and began working for Continental Casualty Company.
In a few short years she met a handsome lieutenant who would become her husband on September 6, 1947. It wasn’t known at that time, but years later the same date would be chosen by Kathie and Bob and also granddaughter Karianne and Dann.
They went on to have four children: Kathie (Bob, deceased), Bob, Sherrie (John) and Kristie (Steve). Their children blessed them with 8 grandchildren. The grandchildren then blessed them with 13 great grandchildren.
Mercedes was a stay at home mom, but kept very busy. She was quite a seamstress. She made clothes for all the children, often matching outfits. She even tried her hand at upholstering furniture.
Mom loved to dance. Their favorite dance song was "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller.
Mercedes spent her last six years living with Kathie. A lot of her time was spent watching her favorite shows: Everybody Loves Raymond, Perry Mason and Murder She Wrote. Then of course were her game and reality shows. She was also quite the football fan. She watched all the college and pro games.
Living with Kathie gave her the opportunity to often see the youngest of her great grandkids which she loved. They loved it too.
