

Patrick Lee Schrote, age 71, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on February 8, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Straka) and children, Spencer Paul Schrote and Rachel Moore Schrote. Pat was born March 13,1952, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Donald Paul and Mary Dillon Schrote. Patrick, the oldest of three, is also survived by brother Daniel Schrote (Toni Ballestrieri) and sister Roberta Schrote, nieces Rosemary O'Shea and Mallory Straka Cohen (Matt Cohen), nephews Benjamin Rosenberg (Emily Bersnak Rosenberg), Sean Rosenberg (Austin Cash), grand nieces Collins Cohen and Scarlett Rosenberg, and in-laws Joann (Straka) and Mark Rosenberg, and Jim and Hilarie (Hurt) Straka.
A natural athlete, Pat grew up in northwest Ohio. He graduated from Maumee High School, where he was the Varsity football quarterback and track pole vaulter. For five summers, Pat attended the American Youth Foundation's camp in Michigan. At age 18, his leadership and athletic skills allowed him to successfully pilot a small group of campers on a thousand-mile canoe trip through the Canadian wilderness.
Pat met Mary Ann during their first week of college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He also made lifelong friends at Miami as a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology.
After college, Pat attended the US Naval Aviation Program at NAS Pensacola, Florida. He completed Officer Candidate School (OCS) and served four and a half years in the US Navy, completing his commission as a Lieutenant on a ship in Bayonne, New Jersey.
On September 3, 1977, he married Mary Ann. Last year they celebrated 46 years of marriage. They lived in the New York City area for eleven years. While in NY, Pat earned a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) from Columbia University, and spent most of his healthcare career in hospital administration. Pat and Mary Ann have lived in the Seattle area for the past 35 years.
Pat's interests were wide-ranging. He enjoyed everything from woodworking, music, Texas Hold ‘Em poker, photography to computer research. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner, and loved to share his passions with family and friends. Pat had a deep and abiding interest in metaphysics and self-actualization; a lifetime quest for self-improvement and effective interpersonal communication. He strove to live and be present in the moment appreciating life as it unfolded for him.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking the Cascades, camping, and exploring nature in the Pacific Northwest. He ran the Seattle Marathon and half marathons; did the Seattle to Portland (STP) bike race; ran numerous 5K and 10K community races; and played golf. Pat had a special fondness for Hawaii, where he cherished the warm weather, the ocean, and the sunsets.
Pat was an original. Above all, he was a great dad, a loyal and trusted friend, known for his kind heart, and his unique sense of humor. He was deeply devoted to his children and took great joy and pride in supporting them in all their endeavors, chaperoning sports trips around the country when they were young, and capturing countless memories of family, friends, and nature through thousands of photographs.
Patrick Lee Schrote will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, intelligence, and adventure will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Lake Forest Park Civic Club 17301 Beach Dr. NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155 on March 23, 2024 at 12:00 noon.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Lake Forest Park, WA.
