Raymond Walter Eiselt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, faithful companion, loyal friend, and proud American, was taken from us too soon on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The child of German immigrants, Ray was born on October 3, 1924, in San Francisco and grew up in Palo Alto. He served honorably in the US Army prior to earning his Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. His keen interest in global affairs, international trade, and foreign languages and cultures was cultivated throughout his career with the US Departments of State and Commerce, serving as Diplomatic Courier, Foreign Service Officer, and Commercial Officer. He met and married his wife Phyllis Clough (of Seattle) in the Philippines and fulfilled subsequent tours of duty in Panama, Iceland, Washington, DC, Japan, Germany and Austria before retiring in Port Ludlow in 1995. He had many passions in life, which he was still enjoying with vigor until he passed away: tennis, bicycling, stamp collecting, travel, gardening, cooking and baking, entertaining, and spending time in the company of family and friends. Phyllis predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his children Erich (Washington, DC), Mark (and Susan Shih), Nancy (and Dan Billey) and Julie (Seattle); grandchildren Gregory and Steven Eiselt and Mariah and Derek Billey (Seattle); and his companion of the last 15 years, Jean Westbrook (Port Ludlow). In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Habitat for Humanity International.
A celebration of Raymond’s life will be held on Friday, May 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Port Ludlow Beach Club in Port Ludlow, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Habitat for Humanity International: https://www.habitat.org/cd/giving/one/donate.aspx?z=a&link=1
