On December 21, 2016, Rebecca Fairbanks passed away in Seattle, WA. She was born in SLC, UT, and was the oldest daughter in a family of 3 sons and 3 daughters. Rebecca was a bright, talented young lady with an effervescent personality and a natural gift for the arts. She was a pianist, an imaginative writer, an accomplished painter, and in her younger years she was a ballerina who performed in Ballet West's Nutcracker Fantasy. As a young teenager, her passion for dance led her to her first job at the Heather Restaurant, now The Tuscany, where she would perform the Scottish Sword Dance. For several years, she worked at Nordstrom, initially in retail. However, her artistic talents pushed her, and she demonstrated her creative abilities with window design. She became so proficient in the field that she was soon transferred to the premier Tyson's Corner Nordstrom in the Washington DC area. Her window displays were recognized by the crowds that would gather around to admire, especially during the holidays. Her next adventures in life took her to San Francisco where she exhibited her paintings, followed by a short time in London. Eventually, she moved to Seattle where she has lived for the past 10 years. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to her friends and family who have expressed their love and support during this difficult time. Rebecca was preceded in death by her son, Erik Douglass, who passed during childbirth in 2009.
Rebecca is survived by her parents, Grant R. Fairbanks, M.D., and ReNae au Ciel, and her siblings, Grant A. Fairbanks, M.D., Lance J. Fairbanks, MBA, Kathryn Fairbanks, Clinton D. Fairbanks, MBA, and Laura Elizabeth, MBA.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016, for family and close friends in the Seattle Elliott Bay LDS Ward Chapel. Interment will follow at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, WA, at 11:30 a.m. Fulfilling her desire, Rebecca will be laid to rest near her infant son, Erik.
We will miss Rebecca's sweet smile, her kindness, her sense of adventure, and her amazing stories. Although we wish that the Rebecca we knew and loved could still be with us, we know that one day we will again be together. Moreover, we are comforted knowing that both Rebecca and Erik will be reunited.
Burial arrangements under the direction of Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
