Richard (Dick) Arden McMurtrie, aged 86, finished his journey here on Earth on December 3, 2016, to join his predeceased wife, Joanne McMurtrie. His service this Friday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Acacia Memorial in Seattle will mark the 50th anniversary of Joanne being laid to rest. He will be joining her in her gravesite, as well as celebrating their reunion in the everafter. Born October 10, 1930 in Sedro Woolley, WA to Anne and Ray McMurtrie, he attended Queen Anne High School and throughout the years retained the special friendships he made there. A graduate of Washington State University (SAE), he was a stout Coug supporter! Dick served the US Army as an officer in the Korean War before settling down to build a career as an insurance executive. A widower at 36 with seven children, his life was rarely mundane. He pursued his life-long interest in horses, breeding and racing thoroughbreds, and enjoyed golf with his many friends. He was a beloved father, son, brother and friend and will be missed by all that shared his life, laughter and love.
Dick was predeceased by his sons Jeffrey and Andy McMurtrie; granddaughter Kari Huseby; and many of his friends, whom he missed dearly. Dick is survived by his sister Marlene Richstad; his children Linda Huseby (Larry), Dennis McMurtrie, Kevin McMurtrie, Kathleen Koback (Rick), Sandra McMurtrie, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
