

Rita Filomena Herrera was born in Albuquerque, NM June of 1950. She was the eldest of 5 siblings which she helped raise and loved very much. Just after she graduated high school, she met her soul mate Carlos Herrera.
She then married Carlos in Las Vegas, NV, and became a step Mother to Jeannie. Later she had her son, Ambrose in 1972, then moved to Seattle, WA in 1973. There she got involved with Christ the King church where she taught preschool for a couple years. Her involvement with the school, relationships developed with church leaders and they bestowed upon her the privilege to be the President of Sodality for a few years. She then moved on to become self employed and started her own family daycare, which she had the privilege to help raise so many children, which she loved as if they were her own. She spoke Spanish and English fluently and would teach the kids either or. She always had made sure the kids would celebrate every holiday by dressing up in costumes for Halloween, Christmas, St. Patrick's day, Easter and Fourth of July. She was a wonderful cook and made the best red Chile enchilada casserole and Pozole. . She loved to play bingo with her Mom, sister and friends. Rita liked playing games with her family such as Yahtzee, cards, life and monopoly. She always looked forward to traveling back home to Albuquerque, NM to spend time with her family. She was an amazingly supportive and giving person, lived a very simple life and did not expect much from anyone. She had the pleasure of traveling to Hawaii and Mexico but mostly she loved her visit to Memphis, Tennessee as she was a huge Elvis Presley fan. She had collected Elvis memorabilia and will be buried in a special Elvis Presley vessel. She passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2016
