

Stephen Scott Haanen, age 50, of Shoreline, WA, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on February 1, 2012. Stephen was born on October 19, 1961 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to John Leo Haanen and Donna Holschuh Haanen.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 14 years, Sandra Smith Haanen, his beloved daughters Sarah, age 12 and Mary, age 10; his parents Donna and Jack Haanen of Queensbury, NY; brother Thomas of Tulsa, OK; brother Michael and wife Garnette of Queensbury, NY; sister Mary and husband Richard Templeton, their three children: Stephanie, John and Jim of Dallas, TX. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents John H. Haanen and Rose Korchak Haanen. He is also predeceased by his maternal grandparents: Irwin C. (Steve) Holschuh and Theresa McCabe Holschuh.
Steve graduated from Queensbury High School and the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelors of Science degree in Geology. Steve was employed by Goodman Real Estate at Pier 70 where he worked for seventeen years.
We will always remember his gentle smile and wry sense of humor. Everyone knew how much he loved his wife, Sandy, and it was heart-warming to see him interact with his two wonderful daughters of whom he was so proud. The family's annual trip to the summer home on Lake George, New York to sail and renew friendships and family ties will be cherished memories. He was loved by all who knew him.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Reception to celebrate his life to be held at the Nile Shrine Golf Center in Mount Lake Terrace, WA on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. During the reception, a Remembrance Ceremony is planned for 3:00 pm. If desired, memorials may be made to the Haanen Family Educational Fund established for his daughters at Chase Bank at 18200 Midvale Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133. Atten: Phil Stark.
