

Vida died peacefully at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Her three sons and other family members were at her bedside. She was born Vida Bernice Walter on June 20, 1916 in White Earth, ND to Flora & Earl Walter. She was raised in Bowbells, ND with her four sisters and two brothers.
Vida graduated from Minot ND Teachers College. While teaching in North Dakota she met her future husband, Donald G. Hanson. They married May 27, 1943. After the war, they lived first in Wenatchee, WA and then moved to Seattle in 1952. After Don’s death in 1961, she devoted her life to raising her three sons. She went back to school to update her teaching skills so she could work as a substitute teacher for school districts around Seattle.
She was a dedicated crossword puzzle player, continuing to work on crossword puzzles up through the last few days of her life. She also enjoyed beating family and friends regularly at bridge and scrabble.
Vida was an early adopter of personal computers. She surfed the internet and had an extended set of friends and family that she kept in touch with through e-mail.
She is survived by her two sisters, Ardis Sherwood and Susan McIntyre of Fargo, ND, her three sons and their wives, Mike & Joanne, Steve & Terry and Kurt & Marcia, her three grandsons and their wives, Brett & Teri, Barrett & Allison, and Matthew, her two great children, Reese and Malena, and many friends and extended family members.

Memorial Services are to be held later. Vida will be buried next to Don at Acacia Memorial Park.
