Wayne was full of life, energy, and compassion until his last breath. Steady, wise, kind, humble, caring, intellectual, passionate about his faith in Jesus Christ and committed to community. He lived with grace—making room for everyone, listening, loving, engaging intentionally, and showing up for those in need.
He grew up in Seattle with his close-nit family. Starting in middle school, he began working at his parent’s bakery before school and pursuing activities like choir, band, and sports outside of school. From an early age he loved the outdoors and was an active and social kid—involved at school, connected to neighborhood kids—biking and causing mischief with his brothers. The summers of his youth were spent boating on Lake Washington, working, and biking. Winters were filled with night skiing after class, but he worked hard in his studies—discovering more about his love of science. His family took several road trips that instilled in him both the love of travel and nature as well as photography.
He remained an avid outdoorsman his whole life—hiking, biking, boating, skiing, or relishing in nature’s beauty. He also remained an intellectual and a quick study, growing through life with humility and curiosity. Through both sorrow and celebration he was a rock for his family and community, steadfast and dedicated to diligence in the variety of roles he played in his life (dad, papa, employee, church member, friend, teacher, coach, foreman, etc.)
He pursued his passions and remained committed to his vocation in the chem-bio field, most of which he spent working for Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque, NM before retiring and continuing to use his knowledge and skills in the field for the rest of his life. Throughout his career, he traveled the world on a multitude of projects—specializing in researching, technical writing, and analysis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Esther Einfeld; his wife, Carol Marie Einfeld; and his grandson, Luka Hayes Ashmead. He is survived by his children, Eric (Stephanie) Einfeld; Jessica Einfeld; Alison (David) Ashmead; six grandchildren; his siblings, Brad (Beth) Einfeld; Kevin (Lori) Einfeld, and Gail (Dean) Douma; along with many dear friends.
A Memorial Celebration of Wayne Einfeld for family and friends will be held Wednesday, June 18th, 2025 at 1PM at University Presbyterian Church 4540 15th Avenue NE Seattle, WA 98105.
