A Navy veteran who fought in Vietnam, Wesley served his country with honor and resolve, reflecting the discipline and commitment that defined him. Like all the heros who fought in the Vietnam war, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a hard, committed worker, but, oh boy, he played hard, too.
Wes enjoyed bowling, women, whiskey, cigarettes, Elvis, and any vehicle that could go fast, especially Harleys and old cars. He also enjoyed fashion and had a vast collection of clothes, much to the surprise of his kids, especially country-western wear. He always loved deeply the very best he knew how, even though he was often tough to love. He fed the neighborhood cats where he lived. He decorated his home with more eagle figurines than anyone could count.
Wes recently beat tongue cancer; he was a survivor and a fighter figuratively and literally - he tended to get into bar fights, even as he aged well beyond the years that one should be doing that sort of thing. He was 86'ed for life from Boots Bar in Black Diamond, right across the street from where he lived. His kids will always get a laugh out of that.
One time, he tried to fight 6 Marines at once because he was in the Navy and the Navy was better - It didn't go well for him. Wes also loved tattoos and had a lot; he passed that love on to all his children.
Wes was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He enjoyed playing pool and spending time at the Black Diamond Community Center, as well.
Wes is survived by his children, Jeremy (Marcella) Read, James Davis, and Rae Angela (Jim) Chapman, who carry forward his memory with love and respect. He was also survived by 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, and siblings; he had a lot of siblings. He is also survived by his friend Debbie, who cared for him through his cancer and was always there to get him to doctor appointments, and so many other friends and neighbors.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elnora and Clyde, his twin sister, Wanda, and his brother, Gordy Williamson. And probably many other important people that his kids don't know about.
A special Thank You to Debbie and to his son, James, for all the care and support you gave to Wes in his later years. You two took on his care with strength, and we all appreciate you. Thank you to Marcella and Jeremy for all the help you both provided to Wes in the last few months, weeks, and days. We are so happy you were here to help him through. Thank you to his neighbours who checked in on him. We don't know you, but you are so appreciated!
