

After graduating from Union Hill High School in Union City, he served in the Army, working at the Pentagon. In 1956, he married Marilyn Ward, also of Secaucus; Marilyn passed away in February 2017 after 60 years of marriage. For some 50 years, he worked in the insurance industry, specializing in workers’ compensation.
Charles is survived by his son Charles and daughter-in-law Marie (Leone), his daughter Jean Markey, and his son Russell and partner David Joseph. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Theresa Braid (and husband Duncan), Cara Leone Meyer (and fiancé Caleb DeSmith), and Francesca Leone Meyer, and by two great-grandchildren, Carlin and Maria Braid. Finally, his beloved cat, Juliet, survives him.
Charles enjoyed softball as an infielder on the PAL team in the town softball league and basketball as a member of the 1950s Flying Dutchmen. He coached young people in the Biddy basketball and baseball leagues. In addition, he served the Secaucus community in the Jaycees.
A patient man, Charles was a fan of the New York Giants baseball team and subsequently the Mets as well as of the NFL’s New York Giants. Charles enjoyed vacationing in Bay Head in late summer, and he liked watching Law & Order with his family. His family will forever remember his gentle manner and his hearty laughter.
A visitation will be held at Mack Memorial Home, located at 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ, 07094-3229, on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 4 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1219 Paterson Plank Rd, Secaucus, NJ, on Saturday, February 21, 2026. followed by his burial at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Rd, Paramus, NJ.
