Ian Tyler Way, age 32, passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Christ Hospital after suffering from complications due to illness. He was born December 25, 1984 in Secaucus to Stuart Way and Cheryl (Parr) Way. Ian was a complex soul with a very large heart and a fierce sense of justice. Though his years may have been short, he lived and had done more in those years than some do who live to be 90. An activist, hacktivist, musician, free spirit and social warrior, he spent a large part of his adult life taking part in the Occupy Movement in San Francisco. It was there that he found a strong sense of purpose as well as community and where he inspired and educated many to their rights as American Citizens as well as pointing out the glaring injustices appearing all over the world today. He was a force to be reckoned with, and was often misunderstood, but he was always a force for good. When he wasn’t on the front lines fighting, he would spend time jamming on his guitar with his father and friends and enjoyed spending family time with his sister and his beloved Niece and Nephew. His Mother had passed away last year on March 20, 2016. Ian is survived by his Grandparents Peter Way and Arlene Way; his father Stuart Way; his older sister Leslie Way; his Niece Melody Smentkowski and Nephew Liam Smentkowski. Viewing to be held at Mack Memorial Home in Secaucus on Saturday from 12-4. We ask that in lieu of flowers, please fight on in Ian’s memory by standing for justice, being active within your community and above all else, be kind and offer help to family, friends, neighbors and strangers whenever the opportunity arises, just like he did.
