Louis Schembre, 80, of Secaucus, NJ, passed away on December 2, 2025. Lou was born on August 17, 1945, in Jersey City, NJ, to Pasquale (“Patsy”) Schembre and Lena (Gentile) Schembre. He spent his childhood in a closely-knit Jersey City neighborhood surrounded by extended family. He spent much of his time trying to keep up with his older brother, Frank, who he looked up to as a role model. He was also a passionate accordion player, even if it never quite became his calling.
He attended St Aloysius High School where he played varsity basketball. After high school, Lou earned his Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and, later, his Master’s Degree in Management Science from Stevens Institute of Technology. He went on to enjoy a long and successful career in the financial services industry, working for several prestigious firms before retiring 15 years ago.
Amongst his many passions, Lou loved golf and was a member of the Forest Hill Field Club in Belleville, NJ. In addition to golf, he enjoyed tennis, pickleball, and other sports. He cherished time spent with his friends at Harmon Cove playing games like Sequence and Rummikub, traveling, or attending shows. He enjoyed producing his annual batch of "Schembre" wine to share with friends and family. He passionately followed the stock market and sports betting -- especially for his beloved New York Jets. Lou was known for his fun-loving spirit and his sense of humor—always ready with a joke and a smile.
He was also deeply committed to his community. Lou served for many years on the Harmon Cove Condo Association Board and took great pride in contributing to the place he called home.
Lou is survived by his children, Stephanie Schembre and her fiancé Daniel Long, and Matthew Schembre and his fiancée Kristin Milot; his brother, Frank Schembre and his wife Gina; his nieces, Elaine Schembre and Danielle Burakovsky and her husband Mitch; and his great-nieces, Dr. Elaine Militello, Skye Burakovsky, and Dylan Burakovsky. He will be deeply missed by his family, longtime friends, and all those who were part of his life.
A viewing for Lou will be held on Friday, December 5th from 4-8pm at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road in Secaucus, NJ. From 4-6pm, the casket will be open for those who would like the opportunity to pay their respects in that way. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, December 6th at 10:45am at The Immaculate Conception R. C. Church in Secaucus, followed by a private cremation.
