It is with a deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marianne Wuillamey. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who passed peacefully on Saturday February 15th surrounded by her children. She is survived by her daughter Lorraine and her spouse Patrick and sons Robert, Mark and his spouse Maria, Michael and William and his spouse Caitlin and her grandchildren William and Dylan.
Born and raised in Greenpoint Brooklyn, a Polish enclave steeped in Catholic faith and long-standing traditions, Marianne was immensely proud of her Polish heritage and she passed down those traditions to her children and grandchildren. She had a fond love of her Brooklyn upbringing, often sharing stories of the neighborhood and the adventures she had with her sister and best friend Lorraine. Both staunch Dodgers fans they attended many games at Ebbets field where they witnessed history when Jackie Robinson first took the field. Her deep love for her sister Lorraine and brother Walter, along with her Brooklyn pride, are sentiments she carried her entire life.
Marianne always sought and worked hard toward the betterment of herself and her family. While raising five children who were in grade school, she went back to school herself and earned a college degree, graduating summa cum laude from St. Peter’s College. She subsequently attended Rutgers law school, where she earned her law degree and became an attorney. Through it all she had the loving support of her husband, Howard, whose encouragement and sacrifices made her many accomplishments possible. Tragically, Howard passed away shortly after she finished her law degree, leaving her a single mother of five. She faced this challenge with unyielding determination and grace, keeping her family united and moving forward. In her retirement, Marianne served as Landlord Tenant Advocate for Weehawken for over twenty years.
Marianne was a woman of passion and civic-mindedness. She was a founding member and the first President of the Weehawken Environment Committee where her leadership played a pivotal role in preserving the Weehawken Water Tower by securing its designation as a historic landmark. She also led the charge with the committee in protecting the Weehawken waterfront from industrial development, ensuring the preservation of this treasured community space for future generations.
Marianne had a love for travel. Both on her own and with her children, she took many trips across the USA, Africa, Asia, and Europe. In between her travels abroad, many beach vacations to Montauk and the Outer Banks created a treasure trove of wonderful memories for her family.
A fiercely independent and unapologetically honest woman, Marianne was never afraid to speak her mind and fight for what she thought was right. She instilled in her family the importance of taking pride in what you do and standing up for what you believe.
Later in life she stayed engaged with the community as a volunteer for the HRPAC. In 2017 Marianne received a proclamation declaring her a Hudson County Women’s History Month Honoree, recognizing her hard work and dedication to her community, and demonstrating herself as a woman of courage, commitment and character. Her legacy is one of love, strength and commitment to her family and community. She will be deeply missed and her spirit will continue to guide us. Rest in peace Marianne. You have left a lasting imprint on all who knew you. Idz z Bogiem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) www.cmmb.org.
A memorial service for Marianne will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Leber Funeral Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ 07094.
