Longtime Shawnee resident, Barbara Birkhead, died December 25, 2010 in Oklahoma City. Born in Ponca City in 1913, Barbara Ruth Rapp married William Henry Birkhead in 1935. They moved to Shawnee in 1944 where they raised their four children. They owned and operated B&B Lumber Company until Mr. Birkhead’s death in 1960. Barbara was a caseworker and supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare until her retirement in 1978. She was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three siblings and one grandson. She will be greatly missed by her family, which includes her daughter Barbara Stiller and husband Don, Savannah GA: son Lee Birkhead and wife Carolyn, Heber Springs AR: son Charles Birkhead and wife Maria, Oklahoma City OK: and daughter, Susan Birkhead, Charlotte NC, ten grandchildren: Andrew Stiller, Laura Stiller, Gaye Tibbets, Keri Ingmire, Brandon Birkhead, Analiesa Chapman, Christina Birkhead, Holly Birkhead, Mia Birkhead and Kathleen Birkhead and thirteen great grandchildren.
