

Elva attended OBU and worked for the Shawnee News Star before marrying William Howard Newell on August 12, 1960. Soon after Elva and Howard started a family and she became a homemaker and loving mother. Their first stop was in Germany where Howard was deployed during his military service and their first son, Steven, was born. They later returned to Shawnee where their second son, Mark, was born. During Howard’s employment with Conoco Oil they lived in many locations including Lake Charles, LA., Ponca City, OK., Norman, OK., Arnold, MD., and Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela.
She had many hobbies and interests. She was an accomplished quilter and loved to sew. She was an exceptional cook and loved to cook for her family and friends. She loved the intellectual challenge of crossword and sudoku puzzles. She loved to discover new places and she and her husband Howard were able to travel extensively prior to his passing. She was an avid lover of animals, especially dogs, and had many loving pets during her lifetime. She was known to spoil them so much her children and friends were a bit envious at times.
She was preceded in death by her father Richard Evelyn Cottrell, her mother Ora May Cottrell, her husband William Howard Newell and her brother Elbert Carl “Corky” Cottrell.
She is survived by her sons Steven Howard Newell of Shawnee, Mark Allen Newell and wife Lori of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Emily Susan Newell of Montclair, NJ, Alex Kieran Newell of Norman, OK, William Tristan Newell of Humble, TX and Jerrod Kuchynka and wife Caitlin of McLoud, OK; two great grand-daughters, Reaghan Krystal Kuchynka and Jessilynn Martina Kuchynka of McLoud, OK; three sisters, Dorothy Marie Hearin of Austin, TX, her twin sister Eva Alene Ward of Norman, OK and Bobbi Helen Beck of Mannford, OK; One loving pet, Allie.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Valir Hospice for the care and compassion with which they treated our Mom and helping to make her last days more comfortable as well as all of her friends for their support in this difficult time.
