

Former Shawnee resident, Evelyn (Wiggins) Aitken, 84, went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, January 8, 2016 in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was born October 27, 1931 in Oswego, Kansas to Ray and Gladys (Ingraham) Wiggins. She graduated from High School in Altamont, Kansas in 1949. Evelyn was employed at a livestock commission firm as a bookkeeper from 1948-1949. She then went on to be a bookkeeper at First Federal Savings and Loan in Parsons, Kansas. She met and married the love of her life, Jack Eugene Aitken on September 16, 1951. They moved to Fayetteville, NC where Jack was stationed with the Air Force. They then moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1955. Evelyn was an Optometric Assistant for 20 years and retired on May 1, 1984. They moved to Shawnee in October of 1985. Starting in 1986, she volunteered over 5000 hours at Shawnee Regional Hospital (now St. Anthony’s Hospital). She also volunteered over 1000 hours at the Oklahoma Blood Institute. Evelyn will be remembered as a tower of strength and independence who was devoted to her husband, children, and family. All of her free time was spent volunteering and helping others in need. She was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, counselor, and listener. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Thomas, Juanita Shouse, and Helen Doty; brother, Warden Wiggins; son-in-law, Wolfgang Haussler. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 64 years, Jack Aitken; children, Connie and husband Tom Mainers, Rhonda Haussler, Aaron Aitken and wife Shoshana; grandchildren, Erin and Luis Rodriguez, Alison and Charles Baker, Larissa Mainers, Jana and Tim Halpin, Kerry and Jeff Harding, Loren Ransom, Sarah Aitken, Shawn Aitken, and Levi Aitken; great grandchildren, Ethan Rodriguez, Sophia Rodriguez, Aubrey Harding, Haven Harding, William Harding, James Halpin, Lainey Halpin, Louisa Baker; several nieces, nephews, other family and dear friends.
