

Gerald David “Pete” McGehee passed away August 1, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. He was born April 4, 1919 in Jacktown, OK to David Crockett and Margaret Maude McGehee. Pete grew up with three sisters, Lora, Geneva, and Vivian or “Bib.” He attended Seminole High School where he met his future wife, Geraldine “Gerry” McCormick. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in 1937, sometimes hitchhiking back and forth between Seminole and Norman. He was a member of R.O.T.C. while at O.U. and graduated in 1941, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He renewed his relationship with Gerry while at college and they continued courting until they were married September 20, 1942. Pete was initially stationed at Fort Sill before being transferred to Texas and eventually, Europe. He served in World War II mainly with the 174th Field Artillery Battalion, arriving in France in mid-April 1944. He continued through the Battle of the Bulge and Germany’s surrender. Pete was honorably discharged from the Army in the Fall of 1945 with a rank of Major. After the war, he took additional business courses at O.U. and obtained a C.P.A. certification. Pete and Gerry moved to Shawnee in 1947. Pete and his family were long time members of the First Christian Church in Shawnee. He enjoyed playing golf and taking vacations with family. He was part owner of McGehee and Robertson, C.P.A., for 25 years, retiring in 1978. Pete and Gerry enjoyed their retirement years living in Arizona part time, playing golf and entertaining family and a host of new friends. They returned full time to Oklahoma in 2005, settling in Tulsa. Pete and Gerry had three children: Michael David McGehee, Martin Wayne McGehee, and George Thomas McGehee, nine grandchildren: Michael David McGehee Jr., Maggie McGehee Henry, Patrick Thompson McGehee, Meghan McGehee Roe, Amy McGehee Bloodworth, Rachel McGehee McCormick, Matthew Thomas McGehee, Peter James McGehee, and Hannah Jeanne McGehee, and eight great grandchildren: Miles Beggs Henry, Bennett Martin Roe, Nathan Joseph McCormick, Daniel Elijah McCormick, Josiah David McCormick, Noah Elisha McGehee, Claire Julia McGehee, James Thomas McGehee. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, David and Maude, as well as his sisters, Lora, Geneva, and “Bib.” He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Gerry, his three children, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He loved his family and adored his wife.
