

The former Shawnee resident Geraldine Avis Hindman Carter went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2016 while living in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was born October 7, 1918 to Mike and Ada Wolf in Yellville Arkansas. At the age of 2 the family moved to Okfuskee county where she grew up with her five siblings, (Sherrell, Bethel, Doyne, Mike and Corrine). They all picked cotton, went to school and church in the community of Bigham and were baptized in Rockcreek or Mr. Fincks pond. At the age of 13 she finished school in Okemah while living with the McKinney family. She married Grant Hindman on February 21, 1937. They raised four children Patsy, Jim, Mike and Linda while living in Castle, Okemah and Shawnee, Oklahoma. Grant died on October 28, 1961 in Shawnee. She married James Carter on September 17, 1971 in Shawnee and welcomed another daughter Jamie. James and Geraldine did a lot of traveling and camping in their RVs until his death in 1995. She moved to Lewisville, Texas in 1997 to be near family and back to Oklahoma in 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, son Mike daughter Patsy and two grandchildren. She was a tower of strength to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
