On Saturday morning, June 11, a truly amazing woman left our midst. On that morning, 97-year-old Grace Shiles passed from this life to the next exactly as she would've wanted, sitting in her recliner with her loving dogs on either side, reading her Bible lesson, including the 23rd Psalm. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 71 years, Elmer Shiles, and a grandson and granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Donald Shiles and his wife Gay, of Maryland; Richard Shiles and his wife Renate, of Pennsylvania; and Jerry Shiles and his wife Donna, of Shawnee; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and numerous cousins and other relatives. Grace loved life and lived it and left it on her own terms, still in her own home, driving, bowling, active in Good Sams and her sorority, on her church board, and volunteering for her "soldiers" at the Shawnee Senior Center. To the end, she was sharp and healthy of mind, memory and body. Her service will be held at the Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee on Saturday, June 25th, at 1:00 pm, to be followed by a Celebration of Life at her beloved downtown Shawnee Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist in Shawnee.
