

Former Shawnee resident, Dr. Jill M. Black, passed away April 29, 2011 at her home in Cleveland, OH at the age of 51. She is survived by her parents, Lonnie and Margaret Black of Shawnee, OK, Aunts Oma Waters and husband Joe, of Stratford, OK, Sonja Yates and husband Randy Schenk, of Pasadena, CA, Bonnie Black, of Galena, IL, & Reba Bailey and husband James of Amarillo, TX; an Uncle, Thad Yates of Asher, OK, numerous cousins, other relatives and lots of friends.
Jill, was born November 13, 1959 in Shawnee, OK. She lived all her school years in Shawnee where she graduated high school in 1978. Jill received two bachelor degrees from ECU Ada, OK in 1983, she went on to get her Masters at University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK in 1985. Later received her doctorate from SIU Carbondale, IL in 1992. At the time of her death she was employed by Cleveland State University as PHD, CHES, FAAHE Associate Professor & Coordinator of Community Health Education.
Jill was very active with numerous organizations in her profession. Her honors and awards include 2008 AAHE Fellow, American Association for Health Education, 2004 Presidential Citation, American Association for Health Education, 2001 Distinguished Faculty Award for Service, Cleveland State University, 1991-1992 Dissertation Research Award, SIU Graduate School, 1990-1991 Illinois DASA Internship Grant/SIU Graduate Assistantship, 1988-1990 Southern Illinois University Teaching Assistantship, 1983-1985 University of Oklahoma Graduate Assistantship, 1981-1983 East Central University Athletic Training Scholarship.
A memorial service will be held at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel May 6, 2011 at 4:00 PM, in Shawnee, OK. Family will receive family and friends for lunch and visitation at 2:00 PM May 6, 2011 at the Resthaven Event Center.
