Lloyd received his GED and worked a variety of jobs. His most accomplished jobs was being a correctional officer at Mabel Bassett’s Correctional Center and Carter Hall, and his last job as working in the Electronics Department at Walmart. Outside of work, Lloyd enjoyed fishing, gardening, and poetry.
Lloyd was extremely passionate about drug abuse recovery. He went into drug recovery for his children in 2012. On October 21, 2022, Lloyd was going to be 10 years sober. Lloyd had a desire to work with Gateway and become a mentor for anyone recovering from drug abuse.
Lloyd met Sally Lindsey in September of 1998 at a McDonald’s, that he worked at. “All it took was a smile and I fell in love with Lloyd that day. I knew he was the special someone who I was going to marry,” Sally McLaughlin recalls. On June 12, 1999, Lloyd married Sally Evelyn Lindsey, at Victory Tabernacle in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They went on to have four beautiful children together. He was extremely proud to become a father and loved spending time with his children. Lloyd worked hard and made it possible for his wife Sally to stay at home with their children for 23 years.
Lloyd’s oldest daughter, Marissa McLaughlin (22) remembers going on fishing trips to Sportman’s Lake with her father as, “It was always peaceful looking at nature together.” They loved watching WWE Smackdown and WWE Raw. Lloyd taught her how to tie her shoes, and cook eggs, potatoes, and ham scramble- Marissa’s favorite breakfast. They would stay up late while Lloyd played songs with hidden meanings such as Daddy’s Hands, 3 Wooden Crosses, and Teddy Bear. Lloyd was Marissa’s gaming buddy, they enjoyed playing Call of Duty and DC Universe together.
Daughter Samara McLaughlin (12) will miss gardening and growing vegetables with her dad the most. They would stay up late to watch Alfred Hitchcock and The Twilight Zone. “Dad and I enjoyed looking at the stars at nighttime together and loved video gaming with dad.” They shared a love of pets together, especially cats.
Son Leland McLaughlin (7) remembers the good times with his dad and watching WWE Smackdown together. “We even had nicknames for each other. I was Teeter Totter and he was Fatty Daddy!” Leland and Lloyd had pillow fights, watched Woody Woodpecker, played in the snow, and would play in the water sprinkler Lloyd set up. Leland will always cherish the sunglasses given to him by his dad and the candy they ate.
His wife Sally will never forget him and remembers the amazing man she married. “He was the sweetest guy I ever met. I am grateful for the wonderful memories we shared together for 23 years.” Lloyd would drive her to High School, cook her lunch, take her on surprise picnics at the park, fish and camp in a tent down at his grandma’s pasture, watch movies, cook healthy meals together, try teaching Sally how to sew, and Lloyd beating cancer last year. “I will miss him dearly but have wonderful memories forever in my heart.”
