Sandra Kay Melhouse

After meeting in high school and dating the love of her heart through her college career at the University of Oklahoma, Sandra married Richard “Dick” Jones in 1956. They had 3 children, Jeffrey, Kimberly and Kelley. They moved to Shawnee where Dick ran one of his family’s businesses, W.R. Jones Co., till his death in 1998. They were happily married for 41 years. They lost their 25 year old son in 1983 who was married to Valerie Bostwick. Sandra was a second mom to many over the years. She and Dick took in some kids as her own family. She would share her opinions whether asked for or not, but loved deeply nonetheless. Her smile was memorable, her heart was huge, her cooking was always delicious and hot and she would do your laundry if you left it at her house. She and Dick would be your home away from home if you ever needed one.

She then married her 2nd love, Ron Melhouse in 2000 and they lived happily in Shawnee until his passing in 2012. She started struggling with early dementia and it got progressively worse after Ron’s death. She put up a good fight for many years. She lived at Belfair the last 3 years of her life and stole many hearts there. 

Sandra is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Cahill from Ft. Worth, TX and grandson, William Cahill; Kelley Chlouber and her husband, Steve from Shawnee; Cade and Elizabeth Chlouber, grandchildren from Shawnee; Cole and Mykaela Chlouber, grandchildren from Marlow, OK, granddaughter Caylin Chlouber from Shawnee. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Judy Landis from Edmond, Ok; nephews Todd Landis and his wife Christi; Tim Landis and his wife Michelle and many close friends whom she called family!

Sandra was pre-deceased by her son, Jeffrey Jones  and her niece, Leslie Landis.
