Veronica Fern (Wainscott) Schalk, age 86, passed away unexpectedly. Born June 19, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of Charles Henry and Vera Muriel (Walker) Wainscott and graduated from Burlington High School in 1957. Veronica married Richard Schalk in 1972; he preceded her in death in 2002. Caring for others was her superpower. She devoted herself fully to her family, helping raise her stepchildren as if they were her own and teaching them how to be parents, even before they were hers, without ever having children of her own. She embraced their children and grandchildren, becoming a cherished grandmother- "Granny" - and great-grandmother, and one of her greatest acts of love was raising one of her grandchildren from infancy. Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control-she lived them all out in every part of her life. In her younger years, she was an exceptional cook and enjoyed crafting, reading, and traveling. She is survived by her stepchildren; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many cousins; and numerous family members and friends who will forever remember her for her love and kindness. Veronica will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Services are set to be private.
