Mrs. Betty Jean Smith, age 89, of Mt. Washington, Ky passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, with her family by her side. Betty was born in Cairo, Illinois, on August 12, 1936, to the late James M. Wilson and Beatrice (Green) Wilson. She worked in bookkeeping, accounting, and sales over the years, but her greatest joy was found in her family. With unwavering love, gentleness, and faith, she poured herself into creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, cherished recipes, and unforgettable memories. Together with her husband Roy, she helped with their drapery business, often sewing with care, and side by side they created not only a livelihood, but a home filled with love, devotion, and grace for their children. She made sure no one ever left hungry and that everyone always had a seat at her table- often giving up her own just to know others were comfortable and cared for. Betty had no unkindness in her- she was truly an angel on earth, remembered for her hospitality, gentle spirit, and her gift for making everyone feel cherished. Her legacy of love will live on for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her late husband of 43 years Roy Carson Smith; her parents; two sisters Kathleen Lindsey, Mary Sutton; one brother Paul Wilson.
She is survived by her three children: Troy C. Smith (Shawna), Tempa J. Kohler (Michael), and Todd A. Smith (Rebekah). She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Ashley (Brenton), Carissa (Malachi), Olivia (Dale), Bradley, Savannah (Bryan), Wilson, Eli, Jonah. She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren. In addition, she cherished her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends- treating each as if they were her own.
A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Christian Assembly Church (9020 Stonestreet Road Louisville, Ky 40272). The visitation will be held at the church that same day from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. (No visitation at Funeral Home). Burial to follow at Beth Haven Cemetery.
