

Retired Army Sergeant First Class Charles David Walker passed peacefully Friday morning, June 19, 2020 at Indian Creek Healthcare in Corydon, Indiana. Mr. Walker was a member of the Church of Christ since 1980. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sook Hee "Jean" (Kyung) Walker; four daughters and one son and their spouses, MiWha and Chico Chicoine (CA), Linda and Jack Hankins Jr (KY), Katie and Wayne Brindley (HI), Tony and Wendy Walker (NY), Sarah Frances "Frankie" and Tim Wright (KY); twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister and her husband Mary Jane and Bob Allen (NC). He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Jean Walker; his parents, Raymond William and Mary Lou Walker; and infant grandson, Brian Charles Hankins.
He served in the marines for 3 years and then joined the army, serving more than 20 years and retiring in 1975. He was on the U.S. Army pistol team, and he held the rank of major in the Maryland State Militia. He was a private investigator, auto mechanic, a machinist, and thoroughly enjoyed working on model trains. He liked to quiz people about historical facts about the two-dollar bill and always asked "If you're not going to have fun, why'd you get out of bed?" He also loved to sound out license plates in Morse Code when on the road.
Memorial service will be conducted at 5 pm on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road). Friends may pay their respects on Sunday at 4 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
